The Capital Times

The Capital Times publishes two editions Monday through Friday. The first edition has a news deadline of 9:30 a.m. and the second edition has a deadline of 12:30 p.m. The Capital Times also publishes a Saturday 'Weekender' edition which has a 4 a.m. news deadline and goes to press at 5. This paper concentrates heavily on the many cities, villages, and towns in rural Dane County where it is home delivered, as well as Madison, Monona, Middleton, Sun Prairie and parts of the towns of Madison, Dunn and the City of Fitchburg.

Every Monday through Saturday, The Capital Times provides readers with an extra look at each morning's breaking news, offering up an unapologetically progressive examination of current (and past) events.

As Dane County's largest afternoon newspaper, The Capital Times puts special emphasis on the local implications of area, state, and national news, with regular daily and weekly features such as Communities ("Where We Live and Who We Are") Savvy ("News for Today's Woman"), and Forum ("A voice for peace, social justice and freedom since 1917").

Most of the editors, reporters and photographers start work at the newspaper early in the day.

The first edition is distributed around the state with most of its circulation in 17 counties surrounding Madison and has a press time of 11:20 p.m. The second edition goes to the Madison metropolitan area and has a press time of 1:35 a.m.

For readers in 11 counties, the Wisconsin State Journal (the state's second-largest morning newspaper) is an essential part of every day, delivering timely and important local news, information, and advertising.

From page two's Good Morning! feature, which serves as both a general summary of the news of the day and an index to specific stories within, to the entertainment-related Daybreak section, the Wisconsin State Journal wakes its readers up with an indispensable jolt of information, opinion, and analysis.

Reporters, editors and photographers work at various times. Some staff members start in the morning for the next day's editions. Later, night reporters and editors update the news right up to 1:00 a.m. every day.
